Frequently Asked Questions

Everything GTA homeowners ask about cost, timelines, permits, warranties, curing, maintenance and seasonal scheduling.

How much does a concrete driveway cost in Toronto?

Most residential concrete driveways in the GTA range from $12–$20 per square foot for broom finish, and $18–$30+ for decorative finishes like stamped or exposed aggregate. Final pricing depends on size, access, removal requirements and finish. Every S-Tier quote is free, written and itemized.

How much does interlock cost per square foot?

Interlock installations typically range from $20–$40 per square foot installed, depending on the paver product, base depth, patterns and borders. Driveways require deeper granular bases than patios, which affects price. We provide exact fixed quotes after a free on-site assessment.

How long does an asphalt driveway last?

A properly built asphalt driveway lasts 20–25 years in the GTA climate. The key is the base: we excavate to proper depth, compact granular in lifts, and pave with premium mixes. Sealing every 2–3 years extends life further.

How long does concrete take to cure?

Concrete reaches walking strength in 24–48 hours and vehicle strength in about 7 days, but full design strength takes 28 days. We ask clients to keep vehicles off new driveways for at least 7–10 days and avoid de-icing salts in the first winter.

Do I need a permit for a new driveway or pool?

Driveway widenings, front yard parking, retaining walls over 1 metre and all pool installations typically require municipal permits in most GTA cities. S-Tier guides you through the permit process and builds to local bylaw requirements.

What warranty do you offer?

We stand behind our work with a written workmanship warranty covering base failure, settling and installation defects. Material warranties from paver and concrete suppliers apply in addition. Details are itemized in every contract.

When is the best time to schedule concrete or interlock work?

The construction season in the GTA runs April through November. Spring books up fast — we recommend requesting a quote in late winter. Fall installations are excellent as well, with proper curing precautions.

How do I maintain my interlock driveway?

Interlock is low-maintenance: sweep regularly, top up polymeric sand every few years, and consider professional power washing and sealing every 3–5 years to refresh colour and protect against staining. S-Tier offers a full cleaning and sealing service.

What is polymeric sand and why does it matter?

Polymeric sand is a joint sand with binders that hardens after installation, locking pavers together, resisting weeds and preventing washout. Proper polymeric sand installation is essential to a long-lasting interlock surface.

Stamped concrete vs. interlock — which is better?

Both are premium options. Stamped concrete offers a monolithic surface with endless pattern options at a typically lower price point. Interlock offers easier spot repairs and no cracking concerns. We'll walk you through the trade-offs for your specific project during your free estimate.

How long does a pool construction project take?

A complete pool construction project typically takes 6–12 weeks depending on scope, permits and weather. Pool renovations (new tile, coping, surrounds) typically run 2–4 weeks. We provide a detailed schedule before work begins.

Do you handle pool waterproofing?

Yes. We provide complete pool waterproofing services including crack injection, membrane systems and structural repair — critical for older concrete pools showing water loss or surface deterioration.

Can you repair my existing concrete instead of replacing it?

Often, yes. Minor cracking, spalling and surface wear can be repaired or resurfaced. Structural failures, deep frost heaving or widespread damage usually justify replacement. We give you an honest assessment either way.

How thick should a concrete driveway be?

We pour residential driveways at a minimum of 4–5 inches of high-PSI, air-entrained concrete over 6–8+ inches of compacted granular base, with reinforcement as needed. Garage pads and commercial slabs are engineered thicker.

Will my new asphalt driveway be ready to use right away?

You can walk on new asphalt after 24 hours, but keep vehicles off for 3–5 days in warm weather. Asphalt fully hardens over 6–12 months — avoid sharp turns while parked and pointed loads in the first season.

Do you work on commercial properties?

Yes — S-Tier serves commercial clients across the GTA with parking lot construction and resurfacing, concrete curbs and pads, catch basin repairs, line painting and property landscaping. Ask about maintenance contracts.

What areas do you serve?

We serve the entire Greater Toronto Area, including Toronto, Vaughan, Richmond Hill, Markham, Mississauga, Brampton, Oakville, Burlington, Pickering, Ajax, Whitby, Oshawa and surrounding communities.

Are estimates really free?

Yes. Every estimate is free, in-person and no-obligation. We measure, discuss options, and deliver a written itemized quote — usually within 48 hours of the site visit.

How soon can you start my project?

Lead times vary by season — typically 2–6 weeks from signed contract during peak season. Booking early in the year secures preferred spring and summer slots.

What happens to my landscaping during construction?

We protect surrounding surfaces and gardens, use designated access paths, and restore any disturbed areas. Clean, respectful job sites are an S-Tier signature — your property is treated like our own.

Why is proper drainage so important?

Poor drainage destroys driveways, patios and foundations. Every S-Tier project is graded to shed water away from structures, with drainage solutions (swales, catch basins, window well drains) integrated where needed.
